Household Budget Calculator — Plan Your Expenses and Savings
Calculate optimal division of family budget. Calculator shows recommended spending proportions for housing, food, transport, and savings based on your income.
What is a household budget calculator?
A household budget calculator is a tool that helps optimally divide monthly income across different expense categories. Based on your income and life situation, it shows recommended proportions for housing, food, transport, entertainment, and savings.
Basic household budget principle: Income - Savings = Expenses (not the other way around!)
Instead of spending everything and saving the rest, first save the planned amount, then manage the remainder.
The 50/30/20 Rule — Foundation of household budgeting
Basic net income division:
- 50% for needs — housing, food, transport, insurance
- 30% for wants — entertainment, hobbies, non-essential purchases
- 20% for future — savings, investments, emergency fund
Example for 8,000 PLN net income:
| Category | Percent | Amount | Example expenses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Needs | 50% | 4,000 PLN | Rent, food, transport |
| Wants | 30% | 2,400 PLN | Restaurants, cinema, hobbies |
| Future | 20% | 1,600 PLN | Savings, investments |
