Step-by-step guide to exporting transactions from ING Bank Slaski and importing them into Freenance. CSV export, format details, and troubleshooting.
How to Import ING Bank Transactions to Freenance
ING Bank Slaski is one of Poland's most popular banks, and importing your ING transactions into Freenance takes just a few minutes. Once imported, your transactions are automatically categorised, giving you a clear picture of your spending, income, and savings rate.
Export from Moje ING
Step 1: Log in to Moje ING
Navigate to login.ing.pl and log in with your credentials. You can also use the ING Mobile app for this process.
Step 2: Go to your account history
Click on the account you want to export. Select "Historia" (History) from the account menu.
Step 3: Set the date range
Choose the period you want to export. For the first import, select the longest available range (up to 12 months). For subsequent imports, select only the new transactions since your last export.
Step 4: Export as CSV
Click the export/download button (usually a download arrow icon or "Pobierz" button). Select CSV format. The file will download to your computer.
File format details:
- Encoding: Windows-1250 (Polish characters)
- Separator: Semicolon (;)
- Fields: Date, description, amount, balance, transaction type
Step 5: Rename the file
Freenance expects CSV files named ing-{account-number}.csv (full IBAN, no spaces, no PL prefix). Example: ing-37105010541000009843457327.csv.
Step 6: Import into Freenance
- Sign in to Freenance and open Configuration → Bank import
- Drag the CSV onto the upload area or click Choose file
- Click Upload
- The import job will report how many incomes and expenses were created and the date range covered
Tips for best results
- Import regularly (monthly) to keep your financial picture current
- Check for duplicates: Freenance detects duplicate transactions automatically, but verify if you overlap date ranges between exports
- Multi-account support: If you have multiple ING accounts (savings, current, currency), export and import each separately
- Transaction categories: Freenance auto-categorises most transactions. Review and correct any miscategorised items in the first import to improve future accuracy
Troubleshooting
Problem: CSV file shows garbled Polish characters Solution: The file uses Windows-1250 encoding. Freenance handles this automatically, but if you open the file in Excel first, it may re-encode incorrectly. Import the original file directly without opening it in other applications.
Problem: Some transactions are missing Solution: Check the date range in your export. ING may limit export to the last 12 months. For older transactions, contact ING for a historical statement.
Problem: Duplicate transactions after re-import Solution: Freenance detects duplicates by date, amount, and description. If duplicates appear, you can remove them manually in the transaction list.
What you gain from importing

FAQ
What filename should I use for an ING CSV export?
Freenance expects ing-{account-number}.csv where the account number is the full IBAN with no spaces and no PL prefix. For example: ing-37105010541000009843457327.csv.
Why do Polish characters look broken when I open the ING CSV in Excel?
ING exports use Windows-1250 encoding. Freenance decodes this automatically, but opening the file in Excel first can re-save it in a different encoding. Upload the original downloaded file without opening it in a spreadsheet editor.
How far back can I export transactions from Moje ING?
Moje ING typically allows exporting up to the last 12 months in one go. For older history, request a historical statement from ING directly — Freenance can import older periods once you have the CSV.
Will Freenance create duplicates if I export overlapping date ranges?
No. Freenance detects duplicates based on date, amount, and description, so re-importing an overlapping window is safe. Any remaining duplicates can be removed manually from the transaction list.
Can I import several ING accounts (current, savings, currency) at once?
Each account is exported and imported as a separate CSV. Freenance treats each one individually for category tracking and account balances, but the combined view shows your total ING position alongside other banks.
