YNAB Pricing 2026: $14.99/mo, $109/yr — and What It Really Costs in the EU

YNAB's official 2026 pricing from ynab.com: $14.99 monthly, $109 annually, 34-day free trial. Plus the part US reviews skip — the price is in USD and excludes tax, so here is the annual cost with each EU country's VAT added.

YNAB Pricing 2026

Quick Answer

YNAB costs $14.99 USD per month or $109 USD per year — one plan, one feature set, no cheaper tier and no paywalled features. Paying annually costs the equivalent of $9.08/month and saves $70.88 a year versus monthly billing. The free trial is 34 days with no credit card required, and college students get a free 365-day trial through YNAB's College Program. Two things US reviews leave out for European readers: the price is quoted in US dollars with no local pricing, and YNAB's terms state the fee excludes tax — so in the EU you pay $109 plus your country's VAT rate, which is $134.07 in Poland or $138.43 in Hungary.

The official prices

These are the two numbers on ynab.com/pricing as of 15 September 2026. Everything else on this page is built on them.

Billing List price (USD) Effective per month Vs. monthly billing
Monthly $14.99 $14.99
Annual $109.00 $9.08 Saves $70.88/year (39%)

Both options unlock the identical product. YNAB has no Basic/Pro split, no per-seat upgrade and no add-on modules, so "which YNAB plan should I pick" is only ever a billing-frequency question.

What you actually pay in the EU: the price plus your VAT

YNAB's terms say the fee excludes tax: "Subscription fees are exclusive of all applicable taxes, levies, or duties" and "where required by law, we will collect and remit applicable sales, use, VAT, or similar taxes." Under EU rules, electronic services are "always taxed in the customer's country" — so the rate that applies is the standard VAT rate where you live, not a US rate.

Finland 25.5% $136.79 $18.81 $11.40
Hungary 27% $138.43 $19.04 $11.54

Two honest caveats on that table. YNAB publishes no EU VAT schedule of its own — its only tax help article covers US city and state sales tax — so these figures apply the statutory rule to the list price rather than reproducing a YNAB price list; check your checkout total before assuming. And VAT rates are national policy that changes: the rates above are the European Commission's standard rates as published 13 July 2026.

The currency cost nobody prices in

YNAB states plainly that it "is priced in US dollars" and that "exchange rates are not reflected in the price." Your card issuer converts, and most EU debit and credit cards add an FX markup on top of the interbank rate.

  • A typical bank card FX markup of 2-3% adds roughly $2.20-$3.30 to a $109 annual charge.
  • Paying monthly triggers 12 separate conversions instead of one, so the markup applies twelve times.
  • A multi-currency card that holds USD removes the markup but not the VAT.
  • The USD price also means your cost in EUR or PLN moves with the exchange rate all year, even though the dollar figure is fixed.

Adding it up: the $109 headline is realistically $130-$142 a year for an EU household once VAT and card FX are included — about 20-30% above the advertised number.

Does bank sync work in your country? The unverifiable column

This is the one line in a pricing comparison that YNAB does not let you check before paying, and it matters more than the price. The pricing page says direct import "currently supports select US, Canadian, UK, and EU Banks" and offers file-based import everywhere else.

Question What YNAB publishes
Is there a public list of supported EU banks? No — the Europe support article says only "select European banks"
Which countries are covered? Not published — no country list on ynab.com or the support site
Who provides the connection? Plaid, added for European connections (YNAB announcement, 5 Feb 2025)
What if your bank is missing? File-based import — manual CSV/OFX upload
Multi-currency accounts in one budget? No"you can't use multiple currencies together in a single spending plan"

The practical consequence: whether YNAB is a $134-a-year automated tracker or a $134-a-year manual spreadsheet depends on a fact you can only establish by running the institution search inside the 34-day trial. Do that on day one, with every account you hold, before the trial clock matters.

That single-currency limit is the harder constraint for anyone holding accounts in more than one currency — a EUR salary and a PLN mortgage cannot live in the same YNAB plan. Our full YNAB review covers what that does to a cross-border budget, and the YNAB vs Monarch Money comparison puts both apps' bank coverage side by side.

The trial and the student year

Both trial offers come straight from the pricing page, and the student one is unusually generous.

  • Standard trial: 34 days, no credit card required — sign up directly through YNAB rather than an app store to get this version.
  • College Program: a free 365-day trial for college students.
  • Refunds: monthly fees are non-refundable, with no retroactive refunds or credits for unused time.
  • Cancelling: takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then.

Because monthly is non-refundable and annual is 39% cheaper, the rational sequence is to use the full 34 days to test bank coverage, then commit annually — not to "try a month" at $14.99.

Is the price the right question?

For a US household with supported banks, $9.08/month for a mature zero-based budgeting method is defensible. For an EU household the arithmetic shifts, because the price rises to roughly $11.17/month in a 23% VAT country while the automation you are paying for may not reach your bank at all.

If your accounts are spread across EU banks and currencies, compare against tools built on PSD2 open banking, where multi-bank and multi-currency are the default rather than the exception — the EU budgeting app roundup and our Freenance vs YNAB comparison cover that side.

FAQ

How much does YNAB cost in 2026?

$14.99 USD per month or $109 USD per year, billed in US dollars. The annual plan works out to $9.08 per month and saves $70.88 compared with paying monthly for twelve months. There is only one plan — both prices buy the identical feature set, and YNAB has no cheaper tier, no premium add-ons and no per-user charges.

Is YNAB cheaper monthly or annually?

Annually, by a wide margin: $109 versus $179.88 for twelve monthly payments, a saving of $70.88 or 39%. Because monthly fees are explicitly non-refundable, paying monthly as a low-commitment trial is the worst of both — the 34-day free trial already serves that purpose at no cost.

Does YNAB charge VAT in Europe?

YNAB's terms state that subscription fees are exclusive of all applicable taxes and that it collects and remits VAT where required by law, and EU rules tax electronic services in the customer's country. In practice that means $109 plus your national standard rate: $129.71 in Germany, $131.89 in Spain, $134.07 in Poland or Ireland, $138.43 in Hungary. YNAB publishes no EU VAT schedule itself, so treat those as the rule-based figures and confirm at checkout.

How long is the YNAB free trial?

34 days, with no credit card required when you sign up directly through YNAB. That is longer than most budgeting apps' 7-to-14-day trials, and it is deliberate — the method takes a full pay cycle to click. College students can instead get a free 365-day trial through YNAB's College Program.

Does YNAB support European bank connections?

Partially, and YNAB does not publish which parts. The pricing page says direct import supports "select US, Canadian, UK, and EU Banks", the Europe support article says "select European banks" with no country list, and the connection provider is Plaid. Where your bank is not supported, the fallback is manual file-based import. Test your own banks in the institution search during the 34-day trial rather than assuming coverage.

Can I budget in more than one currency in YNAB?

No. YNAB supports choosing a currency, but states you "can't use multiple currencies together in a single spending plan". If you earn in one currency and spend in another, you would need separate budgets that cannot be summed, which is the main structural reason cross-border European users look elsewhere.

What is the real total cost of YNAB for an EU user?

Roughly $130-$142 per year rather than $109. Start with the $109 list price, add your country's VAT ($20-$29 across the EU), then add a card FX markup of about 2-3% on the dollar charge ($2.20-$3.30) unless you pay from a USD balance. Paying monthly instead multiplies the FX conversion by twelve on top of the higher $179.88 base.
